Now that Motorola is owned by China-based Lenovo, it only makes sense for the company to bring its phones to that country. It’s doing just that with the Moto X and Moto G with LTE but also with a third phone called the Moto X Pro, which sure sounds like a renamed Nexus 6 phone.
[company]Motorola[/company] announced the news Tuesday, sharing a few details of the upcoming handsets. Starting tomorrow, consumers in China can access the Moto Maker site and build a custom Moto X; the Moto G with LTE arrives after China’s Spring Festival, as does the Moto X Pro.
The new Moto X Pro might sound familiar to those who know about or have a Google Nexus 6 handset (pictured). It has a 6-inch quadHD display, dual front-facing speakers, 13-megapixel camera and 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 chip plus 3,220 mAh battery. Look at the Nexus 6 and you’ll see those same specs.
[company]Google[/company] partnered with Motorola to design and build the Nexus 6, and it’s a smart move by Motorola to not only sell its phones in China but also to repurpose the Nexus 6 as the Moto X Pro. I can’t recall a prior Nexus phone ever getting reused like this, but it makes sense: The Nexus 6 is basically a scaled up Moto X with a few extras, and it’s a top-notch smartphone.
I chose a standard Moto X over the Nexus 6 for some of the Motorola-specific software features and now consumers of China won’t really have to choose — they’ll get a Nexus 6 with those Motorola goodies.
