If you’re a woman working at Microsoft, this is a good week to ask for a raise

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella put his whole leg in his mouth Thursday at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing event in Phoenix, suggesting that women who don’t ask for raises are actually more likely to get them because of “karma.” Selena Larson from ReadWrite was in attendance and summed up the reaction (the basic gist: WTF?) quite well to Nadella’s advice that “It’s not really about asking for a raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will give you the right raise.” The company made an attempt at damage control on Nadella’s Twitter account, and later shared an email he wrote to employees, but I’m sure he’ll be reminded about that line for a very long time.
