Lack of ‘Angry Birds Space’ Highlights Windows Phone’s Challenge

Angry Birds Space is another huge hit for Rovio but it won’t be bringing any help to Windows Phone, according to Peter Vesterbacka, the chief marketing officer of Rovio. He told Bloomberg Thursday that Rovio has no immediate plans to build a version of the game for Windows Phone.

Update: Reuters (NYSE: TRI) is now reporting that Rovio is planning on a version of Windows Phone 7 but the date has not been set. “We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7,” Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said. It’s unclear what caused the about-face, though it’s possible that the company simply changed its mind, is conducting some damage control or was persuaded by Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) or Nokia (NYSE: NOK), perhaps through financial support.
