The 2012 conference season has kicked into high gear, and GigaOM Pro Analysts have been sending dispatches from events ranging from CES to LotuSphere. Next Thursday, February 2, Green IT Curator Adam Lesser joins the fray at Mobile Forum: Connected Car, an event hosted in Santa Clara, Calif., by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. Adam will be moderating a panel entitled “Electric Vehicles: Auto Sapients?” alongside representatives from the Toyota Infotechnology Center, Airbiquity and Evolvelectric.
The panel will be looking at the rapidly developing electric car market, a topic that Adam has covered extensively in recent pieces such as “Waiting for the EV market to materialize,” “Green IT 2012: looking for bright spots amid the clouds” and his most recent quarterly wrap-up, “Green IT Q4: solar, subsidies and the outlook for EVs.” Until now, the EV market has had a slower ramp than expected, marked by tepid sales of mid-range models such as the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. This year, with the release of two long-awaited luxury models — the Tesla S and the Fisker Karma — the EV market has the potential to start expanding its market as the number of EV introductions explode. Adam will explore the challenges ahead for EV adoption, ranging from optimal EV pricing to EVs’ impact on the smartgrid and how the telematics built into EVs is revolutionizing the automotive experience.
