Amazon MP3 Hits the BlackBerry

The Amazon (s amzn) content juggernaut rambles on with the release of the Amazon MP3 app to the BlackBerry (s rimm) platform. The music store app is available in the BlackBerry App World and brings the popular features “Free Song of the Day” and “Amazon’s Daily Deal” to the BlackBerry faithful.

Amazon has been selling MP3s on Android (s goog) phones since the release of the G1, and spreading to the BlackBerry is a solid move for the company to drive further competition with the iTunes store (s aapl). The Daily Deal has become a popular item driving sales according to Billboard, as new albums are often featured at special pricing.

The Amazon MP3 experience on the BlackBerry will rival that of other mobile platforms, with over-the-air (OTA) downloads and full music search capability. Consumers are able to preview up to 30 seconds of a song prior to purchase, and share music with friends. Purchases of Amazon MP3 music are fully integrated with the BlackBerry’s universal search and media library on the phone.

The support of multiple platforms for the MP3 store is the same strategy Amazon is using with Kindle e-book content. The Kindle app is available on every smartphone platform, which substantially expands the target consumer base.
