As we suspected they would, the major broadcast networks have begun trying to steer the free TV business toward the same dual revenue-stream model that pay-TV networks enjoy by leveraging retransmission consent to extract per-subscriber fees from cable and satellite providers. Part of that effort could include reining in Hulu by putting some of its free broadcast content behind a pay wall. Hulu chief Jason Kilar says, don’t blame us for trying to build a business.
