Businesses are warming up to on-site renewable energy production judging by the sprawling solar arrays cropping up on data center rooftops. Today in St. Louis, Missouri, Emerson Network Power opened the doors to a data center crowned by 550 panels that generate 100 kilowatts of electricity. In Rohnert Park, California, Sonoma Mountain Data Center’s plans call for tapping an existing 83,000-square-foot array that generates an impressive 1.14 megawatts. Of course, we mustn’t forget the trailblazers. AISO has been running a 100 percent solar-powered data center for years and over at the Googleplex, 9,212 solar panels provide over 30 percent of the site’s peak electrical demand.
