Comcast On Track with Wideband Rollouts

logoComcast (s CMCSA)  said this morning it would roll out its 50 Mbps wideband speed tier in Baltimore; Chicago; Atlanta; and Fort Wayne, Ind., in December, with the full rollout in the markets expected to be completed by the first half of 2009. These deployments complete Comcast’s stated plans at the beginning of the year to roll out DOCSIS 3.0 to 20 percent of its market — or about 10 million homes passed — by the end of December. The cable company said at the end of the third quarter that “hundreds” of people had signed up for the pricey service so far, but that was before Comcast launched several new markets in October. We’ll have to check back for takeup rates on wideband next year when Comcast reports fourth quarter numbers.
