On the morning of Sept. 29, a group of entrepreneurs, executives and investors will gather at the GigaOM offices to engage in a town hall-style forum. The topic of discussion will be to consider when IT applications and infrasructure based on open source will realistically form the complete IT delivery chain.
Free, open-source software (FOSS) is finally a trusted solution in the enterprise, but primarily only in infrastructure layers. The promise of a completely open-source enterprise is nigh, but the nagging question remains: Will it work as a business for the technology industry? New business models are appearing that bridge the old world of enterprise software with the promise and customizations of open source.
At this event, the latest GigaOM Pro Bunker Session, we bring together elements of the ecosystem — vendors, buyers, investors and project leaders — to discuss what the next opportunities could be, and what still needs to be done. The livestream starts here at 9:30 a.m.
A few speakers will lead the debate, but overall emphasis will be on participation and comments by all those invited.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Simon Crosby – CTO, Citrix
- Javier Soltero – CTO for Management Products, SpringSource
- Joseph Tobolski – Accenture Research Labs
- Mark Tolliver – CEO, Palamida
- David Recordon – Senior Open Programs Manager, Facebook
- Bernard Golden -CEO, Hyperstratus and Analyst, GigaOM Pro
- James Turnbull – Head of Operations, Puppet Labs
- John Robb – Senior Director of Products, Zimbra
We particularly want to thank Accenture and Orange for their generosity in sponsoring the event and making it possible.
