David MacMillan has over 25 years of management experience with technology-based companies, including founder, CEO and Board roles. He is an Analyst for Gigaom Research and has founded a management consulting firm (Capital Ideas), an energy storage developer (MegaWatt Storage Farms), a decision support database company (Why), and a semiconductor company (originally Gazelle, now TriQuint). Through Capital Ideas, he has advised dozens of startups.
David has also been active on the investment side and is a former Venture Partner with BlueRun Ventures (a $1 billion early stage global VC fund) and a former Board Member of Sand Hill Angels.
David has an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar for academic distinction. His undergraduate degree is a BSEE from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada.
David has 8 US patents, plus additional international patents, in the areas of semiconductors, software and user interfaces.
