Redbooth releases its work chat

The inexorable rise of work chat continues.

Redbooth, the work management solution, has announced the general availability of an integrated work chat capability. This text-based solution extends the comments in Redbooth projects, and the video communication already supported.

What is interesting is the degree of communication increase in companies that have been involved in the closed beta. From the press release,

Redbooth found a 10x average increase in usage among the majority of teams, based on activity by over 150 companies during its beta testing period. Beta testers included leading organizations such as eBay, Hilton Hotels, Cisco and Society For Information Management, a consortium of over 4,600 CIOs and VPs of Corporate IT.

This is a proof of the value of work chat in general, and specifically for the users of Redbooth. And perhaps an indication of why users are migrating to work chat so quickly.

Redbooth Chat supports the spectrum of modalities for chat-based communication, from on-the-fly communication, to mentions in projects that cause notifications, and persistent chat rooms. Here’s how project chats look:

Note the URL referencing an uploaded file. My bet is that Redbooth will quickly allow rendering — and someday, mark-up and editing — of the document in context, because chat users will not want to leave the chat about the document to look at the document being discussed. That’s the central premise of contextual conversation.

Correction: an earlier version of this post stated that the release of Chat was a beta. It is not: it is a general release.
