For his weekly update, David Linthicum, Gigaom Research’s curator for cloud, reported on the Red Hat summit.

The big news was the Dell Red Hat Cloud Solution, an enterprise-grade private cloud product based on Red Hat’s OpenStack platform. The solution was co-developed by Red Hat and Dell, and its announcement was part of a broader extension of the two firms’ long-time collaboration.

David asks, “Is Red Hat seeing new life in the cloud?” His answer is yes, as he gives his endorsement of a deal he sees as solidifying Red Hat’s domination of the OpenStack environment. The move is also a small step forward for OpenStack.
