Verizon and CloudBees team up
CloudBees and Verizon just announced a partnership to provide developers with more interoperability. This agreement is part of Verizon’s strategy to add services to Verizon Cloud, the company’s new cloud computing and cloud storage platform, creating an ecosystem of enterprise technologies in the cloud.
Verizon Cloud was announced in October, 2013, and is now in public beta. It includes an IaaS platform, Verizon Cloud Compute, and an object-based storage service, Verizon Cloud Storage, that are built for the enterprise but nimble enough to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized businesses, individual IT departments, and software developers.
The addition of the CloudBees PaaS should provide developer services that will provide Verizon cloud users with a migration path to the Verizon cloud. The CloudBees PaaS is a sound solution, but there are dozens of other PaaS providers, including Microsoft, AWS, and Red Hat.
The larger question will be if those in the market for a public cloud service will leverage Verizon over the other public cloud providers. Verizon is doing the right thing by rounding out its offering with a PaaS, but the road to success will be long for those guys.
