Samsung set to milk music streaming?

Got Milk? Toronto-based Stream Daily, turns up documents filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office late last week by Samsung applying for trademarks around a brand called Milk Music, which the filings describe as a streaming entertainment service capable of broadcasting music and video, internet radio, VOD and social networking (see also Android Headlines, which incorrectly calls the filing a patent application rather than a trademark submission).

The filings seek to register marks for  “Samsung Milk Music,” “Milk Music,” and “Milkmusic.com.”

If launched, the service would seem to put Samsung on a direct collision course with Google Play Music and Play Movies, and would mark a major step by the Korean hardware giant away from the Android ecosystem. It also suggests Samsung has its eyes on building its in-house Tizen operating system into a full blown device-and-content ecosystem along the lines of iOS/iTunes and Android/Google Play.
