Organizations that leverage cloud computing save, on average, more than 15 percent in IT spending as a percentage of revenue or on a per-user basis, as revealed in a report from Computer Economics.  The companies surveyed have annual revenues between $50 million and $550 million and between 135 and 860 employees.

The report recommends that IT leaders develop a strategic road map for full migration to the cloud.  The message in these numbers is that cloud computing has proven its worth, and consideration of cloud computing as strategic technology is a no-brainer.

I’m officially done with reports that stress things that are already known…that cloud computing has a great deal of value for enterprise IT.  Indeed, this is one of many reports that provide a solid A-rating for the value that cloud computing brings to the majority of corporations and government agencies.

Of course, not all succeed in the cloud for various reasons, ranging from expectations that are too high, or funding levels that are too low.  Or, in some cases, cloud computing is just not a good fit for certain organizations.

That said, generally speaking, cloud computing is a good idea.  Indeed, it’s becoming “old hat.”
