More from AWS re:Invent
Some final AWS releases out of re:Invent this week…
Amazon Kinesis was announced, and is a fully managed service for real-time processing of streaming data at scale. “Amazon Kinesis can collect and process hundreds of gigabytes of data per second from hundreds of thousands of sources, allowing customers to easily write applications that process information in real-time, from sources such as web site click-streams, marketing and financial information, manufacturing instrumentation and social media, and operational logs and metering data.”
This service should enable AWS users to power real-time dashboards, including providing alerts on events, real time analytics, etc..
Amazon RDS for PostgresSQL was also announced, which will provide support for PostgresSQL, “Amazon RDS manages complex and time-consuming administrative tasks such as Postgres software installation and upgrades, storage management, replication for high availability and back-ups for disaster recovery.”
Customers can provision a PostgresSQL database with five gigabytes of storage to start and easily scale up to as much as three terabytes without incurring any downtime. This should nicely round out the AWS database offering, which has been expanding rapidly of late.
