Short takes: DoubleDutch raises $10M, new version of Bitrix24 released
DoubleDutch announced a series C round of $10 million led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The company has recently seen strong and consistent growth in the social and mobile event application formerly known as Flock, and now simply called DoubleDutch. The former mobile CRM app called Hive has been shut down for months, but the focus on events has led to quick need to capital to expand. User profiles, activity streams, and the ability to contact other event goers makes it an attractive tool for users, and the ability to capture user generated content makes money for event organizers, who charge exhibitors and sponsors for the data, while DoubleDutch takes a share of that revenue.

Notably, the only announcement by the company is a tweet referencing a TechCrunch post about the funding.
[Update 27 September 2013: Here’s the official press release.]
Bitrix released a new version of the Bitrix24 work management suite, including a long list of improvements. The ones that really caught my eye are these:
- Video conferencing and screensharing has been added to the Bitrix24 instant messaging and chat capabilities.
- Editing of Word documents is now possible within Bitrix24, either through Google Docs or Microsoft Office Web Apps:
- The Bitrix24 Activity Stream has been extended with real time updates, smart forwarding, notification options and company-wide announcements, as well as management analytics.
- Enhancements to mobile clients are rolling out over the next few days, such as a full-featured mobile CRM capability.
Bixtrix reports that they’ve signed up over 90,000 companies after a 2012 beta.
