CloudBees buys FoxWeave for data integration capabilities.

PaaS provider CloudBees has acquired FoxWeave, a provider of cloud-based data integration services.  The idea is to provide data integration technology to CloudBees’ own growing number of cloud users, and thus expand their presence in the growing PaaS market.

FoxWeave was a startup with less than a dozen employees, and CloudBees will add FoxWeave’s data migration and synchronization services to the CloudBees cloud computing platform.  As PaaS providers begin to grow, they will indeed see the need to add new services, such as data integration, to their service offerings.

Of course, other cloud providers, such as Dell’s Boomi, provide data integration as-a-service out of the cloud, and there is no reason that existing IaaS and PaaS providers can’t leverage those external services.  However, having a data integration server that’s native to your PaaS offering does provide a key competitive advantage.

You can count on more PaaS providers to purchase or partner with technology that will round out their cloud offerings in the next few years.  This is in an attempt to grab market share faster.
