Redbox Instant finally coming to Roku
If you’re serious about being a streaming video aggregator service in the US market, chances are your service is available on the Roku With over 5 million boxes in the wild (the majority of which are in the US) and a come-one-come-all approach to video service providers, outside of Apple and Xbox Roku is the biggest thing going for OTT streaming service providers.
So when I saw last month that Redbox Instant was still not available on the Roku a few months after launching into wide availability (after beta testing for nearly a year), it made me wonder why. After all, there are over 20 thousand Brighscript (Roku’s app development language) developers out there who create apps for Roku boxes, and with Verizon and Redbox working on this service since early 2012, there’s no excuse for not having Roku as a launch partner for general availability of the Redbox Instant service.
But as they say, better late than never, and news broke today that Redbox Instant on Roku will be a reality by late summer. I think it’s not a minute too early, as the launch of Redbox Instant been such a quiet one.
Now they just need to add some premium content that people might actually want .
