Oracle and NetSuite announce alliance. I guess Oracle loves everybody.
According to this article at NDTV: “Software companies Oracle and NetSuite announced an alliance to deliver cloud-based services to mid-size business customers, the third tie-up unveiled this week by Oracle as it pushes farther into services delivered over the Internet.”
The agreement focuses on the integration of Oracle’s software for human resources with NetSuite’s services for enterprise resource planning. The focus will be on mid-size companies.
Oracle has a huge stake in NetSuite, so this arrangement is not surprising. However, taken in context with other alliance news, such as that between Salesforce.com and Microsoft, this means Oracle is on the streets and looking for friends. Oracle could be playing catch-up, perhaps driven by some recent weak earning numbers, and additional pressure from the emerging cloud computing space.
That said, I suspect these deals won’t do much to help Oracle stop the eroding enterprise software market. The sales models and the technology are quickly changing. Oracle and other enterprise players have the most to lose.
The solution is to play nice with cloud computing, which Oracle has done on some levels. However, they have not been able to move fast enough for the marketplace, and that has to leave Oracle a bit concerned.
