More proof that Microsoft is conceding in the OS wars: The company has apparently signed a deal with Klab, a Japanese smartphone game maker, to refactor Microsoft’s console and PC games for iOS and Android smartphones. The announcement did not mention iPad, which is one of the limitations of the recent announcement of Office Mobile for iOS. Perhaps Redwood is still holding out (foolish) optimism about the Surface tablet?
At any rate, it’s another data point in the days prior to the much anticipated reorg, rumored to be as soon as next week. While this could be looked at in isolation as just dealing with consumer gaming, I’m considering it part of an overall corporate shift away from Windows and related Microsoft OS platforms, which has large impacts on the enterprise market for co-working software.
