BlackBerry’s new service for iOS and Android is a wise nod to BYOD

BlackBerry today announced a new offering designed to help its corporate and governmental customers control and manage iOS and Android devices. Secure Work Space is available through BlackBerry Enterprise Services 10, a back-end management system that launched earlier this year, essentially separates corporate information from employees’ personal information on their devices. That allows IT workers to manage features like corporate email, calendars, contacts, web browsing and document editing.

The move is targeted at organizations that embrace BYOD policies, which require IT departments to manage a wide variety of devices on multiple operating systems. The BYOD trend is widely expected to continue to gain traction over the next few years, so BlackBerry is wise to do everything it can to support the operating systems that dominate the market as the company struggles to get back in the game with its own smartphones. And as Investors.com noted, Secure Work Space is likely to give a much-needed lift to sales of the Q10. Which may explain why BlackBerry shares gained more than 3 percent today.
