Evernote launches Evernote Business

Evernote has released Evernote Business, a team-savvy version of the popular information repository. The Business version was announced in August, and is now available in the US, France, Germany, the UK, Canada and Japan, for $10 per user per month.

Evernote Business is basically a team-oriented Evernote, with sharable notebooks as well as private personal notbooks. The shared Business notebooks form a business library, which can serve as a corporate intranet.

Evernote has always been too note-centric for me, lacking the social dimension that other web tools offer. With the Business edition, Evernote is taking its first steps into the social business arena, and we’ll have to see how quickly they adopt the key metaphors of work media tools, like activity streams and user profiles. I am betting it will all happen pretty fast.

  1. I’m a huge Evernote fan and an avid user, but I’ve always wanted more out of Evernote. Seems like it would be a no brainer to have it extended for task management (GTD) and I agree with the statement that it lacks really “social” integration. Where Evernote shines is grabbing a note (from email, web, desktop screen capture, makining a note manually, etc) but once a “note” is captured, I would love to be able to put a priority on it and follow-up date… and if it’s going enterprise the follow-up would include assigning it to someone.

  2. I agree that Evernote, Dropbox, etc. seem to bump right up against task management tools. There are a number of task management tools that integrate loosely with file-sync-and-share apps: it seems so obvious when something like ‘please review this doc and let me know what you think’ is a central use case in modern knowledge work.
