Pity poor Nintendo, trying to grab some attention today when the whole tech world is sleeping off a post-Apple hangover. The game maker gave it a good try, however. At a news conference in Tokyo today Nintendo announced pricing and availability of the new Wii U console, the first of the next-generation game consoles to ship from the Big Three. And if anyone thought Nintendo would be humbled by its 3DS pricing stumbles should think again. The “basic” edition of the new Wii U will go for a bracing $300 in the U.S while the “deluxe” edition with more memory will go for $350. Both will be available November 18. The console is also getting a significant video upgrade. Both versions will feature the new TVii platform, that includes support for Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant Video support. It also integrates with TiVo DVRs. A video search engine will help users locate both live TV and streaming video content. The separate Game Pad controller will also serve as a second screen for TV content.
