The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is in talks with music labels to launch a customized streaming music service similar to Pandora. The offering would be supported by Apple devices and perhaps gadgets running Windows, but would not work on hardware running Android. Streaming music is a difficult place to make a buck, as evidenced by Pandora’s most recent earnings report. But such a service would be a great fit for Apple, which has long tolerated razor-thin margins on music sales as a way to sell its hardware. This is a move Apple should have made a long time ago.
