The iPhone turns five years old this week, and GigaOM.com has a handful of great posts discussing how the handset has changed the mobile industry. It’s easy to forget that it wasn’t long ago when most of us were carrying feature phones and carriers dominated the mobile data business with their “home decks.” But Apple changed that by creating a phone that made it fun and simple to do things like surf the web and play games, and by launching the App Store that remains outside the carrier realm. And that revolution has been great for consumers around the world.
