Today in Connected Consumer

It’s been quite a week already for Microsoft, to say nothing of its hardware partners, and it’s only Thursday. On Monday, Microsoft unveiled its upcoming Surface line of tablets, pitting it directly against its own OEM partners also planning to release Windows 8 tablets. And yesterday, it froze out its “flagship” phone partner, Nokia, by announcing that Windows Phone 7 users will not be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 when it is released this fall. In other words: don’t buy a Nokia phone until further notice. Clearly, Microsoft feels it needs to take the hardware bull by the horns if the whole Windows 8 project is going to succeed.
