Both Paul Sweeting and I see Microsoft dominating the news today. When’s the last time that happened? I’ll offer more detailed analysis on Bing’s redesign and social search features in my Weekly Update. Search guru Danny Sullivan does an exhaustive overview of Bing’s new features, and compares them to Google’s efforts. Microsoft hasn’t been able to gain any share in search versus Google – its tiny gains overall have come at the expense of its partner Yahoo. But Microsoft looks like it is doing social search properly. Google could copy many of these ideas, but it has alienated social signals sources Twitter and Facebook. I’m not one of those that believe social media can replace search, but Microsoft is re-setting the bar for its integration.
