Samsung has become the top handset vendor in the world, according to new data from iSuppli, ending Nokia’s impressive 14-year run as king of the hill. My colleague Bobbie Johnson asks whether the Finnish company can ever regain its momentum — or even stay afloat — considering Windows Phone’s continuing struggle to gain traction. But an equally compelling question is where Samsung goes from here. It’s doing well selling hardware, obviously, and is enjoying solid profit margins in a cutthroat space. But for Samsung to take the next step it will have to gain substantial ground in the software and services game, just as Google and Apple have done. So it will be interesting to see how aggressively it pursues its bada initiative in the coming months.
