Today in Cleantech
It’s another tough day for the solar industry as five days following the failure of BrightSource to go public, news arrived this morning that SunPower is shutting down a 125 MW factory in the Philippines. SunPower’s move is more of a consolidation than anything else as it retains a bigger 550 MW production facility. I’m not counting SunPower out quite yet, because they could still benefit from further drops in polysilicon prices and because they have the most efficient panels in the world with a conversion efficiency of 24 percent. But clearly everyone is having to rebuild and rethink their business strategy as global demand slows.
