Apple has taken the wraps off the latest version of its iconic tablet, and it’s an impressive device: It sports a vivid, colorful new screen; substantially improved image capture; and speech-recognition that a few people (who knows?) might actually use. But support for LTE is the feature that will have everyone talking, so here’s my take. While LTE is much faster than 3G, it won’t do much to boost sales of cellular-enabled iPads because A) the tablets aren’t available with unlimited data plans and B) data plans are pretty pricey, especially for a complementary device. The important thing, though, is that Apple has overcome the challenges in adding LTE support in mobile devices. Which certainly indicates the next iPhone will offer LTE connectivity. And that will boost iPhone sales in a huge way.
