Some unrelated news items illustrate that social media advertising is shaping up. Two companies that help marketers build Facebook company pages and incorporate them into marketing campaigns crowed about their growth: Buddy Media and Vitrue. And 33Across, that scans social data for the purpose of targeting advertising off the social sites, acquired Tynt. Tynt offers services for cutting and pasting from web sites, so it has data that can further power an interest graph. And Plink is integrating Facebook’s Credits virtual currency with off-line restaurant loyalty programs. These types of companies are valuable parts of the social media marketing and advertising ecosystem that will help move the industry beyond high-volume, low-price direct marketing display ads that make up a ton of Facebook’s revenue.
