Writing for InformationWeek yesterday, George Crump asks “Are storage vendors shopping for SSD companies?” He looks at the rumors surrounding Apple’s play for Anobit, and wonders “Will we get to the point that all solid-state storage companies are owned by a system vendor?” I recently suggested something similar, concerned that storage of critical data is too important for an enterprise to entrust to startups. So, can one of the multitude of startups doing fascinating things with Flash scale alone, or is the only route to success acquisition by an established enterprise-scale player?
