The Internet Advertising Bureau and its number-crunching partner PwC released the latest estimate of U.S. online advertising revenues, showing Q3 grew 22 percent to $7.9 billion. Not too shabby, given the overall economy. And that kind of growth, especially relative to traditional media, was a driving factor in Time Warner’s decision to put former Digitas CEO Laura Lang in charge of its Time Inc. magazine empire. Lang has no publishing experience but Digitas, now owned by ad agency holding company Publicis, is one of the biggest digital agencies and an innovator in helping marketers create content offerings. Meanwhile, Twitter finally officially launched its self-serve advertising machinery. That should help it with small business advertisers. Finally, Awe.sm managed to convince investors, to the tune of $4 million, that it can build out social media marketing analytics tools from its core link-sharing/URL-shortening technologies.
