Today’s must-read comes from The Wall Street Journal, which examines the pressure Nokia faces as it kicks off its annual conference in London tomorrow. Nokia is widely expected to introduce its new line of Windows Phone-enabled handsets tomorrow, signalling its first step forward after scrapping its Symbian OS in favor of Microsoft’s platform. It’s true that Nokia’s future now hinges on these new phones; if they fail to gain traction the Finnish manufacturer has no shot of reclaiming its past glory. But those handsets are crucial for Microsoft, too, because Windows Phone has yet to find any sizable audience. So Nokia’s devices will determine whether both companies can regain their lost relevance in mobile.
