Today in Mobile

The Register has an eyebrow-raising piece this morning discussing analyzing analyst Peter Mizek’s recent study of LTE patents. LG Electronics surprisingly has the most patents related to LTE, Misek estimates, with Qualcomm and Motorola also claiming sizable chunks of the patent pool. But it’s worth noting that InterDigital, Nokia, Samsung and ZTE all have decent-sized portfolios, with a handful of others claiming smaller shares. Misek doesn’t offer any qualitative analysis, so it’s difficult to determine exactly what this means. But given the number of players involved — and the deep pockets involved — Misek’s analysis offers a glimpse of what’s sure to be the next big battleground in mobile patent litigation.
