While I was hesitant to write another post about Solyndra, it’s worth noting the day in which details of its bankruptcy filing emerge, that this is a massive PR problem for all of alternative energy. The mainstream press is suddenly extremely interested in solar power and the green economy, the latest being ABC News, which is treating the loan made to Solyndra as an example of potential quid pro quo between Obama and a campaign donor. Not to mention the House Energy and Commerce Committee investigation and a lawsuit claiming that Solyndra gave insufficient notice to its employees when terminating them. Renewable energy is a sector that will need government support in the future to continue to narrow the cost disparity between its products and fossil fuels. Now is the time to see some cooperation between different renewable sectors — wind, solar, biomass, solar thermal — in presenting a united voice on how critical the entire renewable industry is to energy security in the U.S., and the inherent economic stability that will come from being energy independent.
