San Jose based startup MapR Technologies has raised $20 million in VC funding to further its efforts to compete in the Hadoop distribution game. Hadoop is a software framework that allows the analysis of big data. It’s growing in popularity and matters to Green IT because many of the low power server manufacturers believe the code and tasks associated with Hadoop are ideal for lots of multi-core processors running in parallel. We’re going to see microserver software platform Ubuntu releasing an ARM version in October and Hadoop is now picking up steam. All of these steps point toward the increased possibility of a low power server market.
