Verizon Wireless today confirmed that it will ditch unlimited data plans this week in favor of a usage-based pricing model. This had long been rumored, of course, but it leaves Sprint as the lone tier-one operator to offer unlimited data plans. Sprint may be forced to move to usage-based pricing eventually, but now it has a great opportunity to differentiate itself as “the unlimited carrier.”
