Today in Social

It is a little quiet in social and online media today, so let’s speculate about some moves Google and Facebook did to acqu-hire talent. The folks that ran Fridge say their mission is to bring shared-membership groups to Google+. Supposedly, groups are already referred to as “shared Circles” internally. Remember that Facebook’s approach to Groups creates groups with common members. Facebook did that both for two-way sharing and to jump-start membership through invitations. Google’s Circles have an adoption advantage because users don’t have to retro-fit Circles, which function both as feed filters and one-way sharing vehicles like e-mail lists. Meanwhile, Facebook has licensed technology and hired engineers that built Facebook real-time search and filtering at Wowd. Are we going to see Circles get “Grouped” and Facebook’s news feed get “Circled?”
