Deutsche Bank’s Chris Whitmore is making headlines this morning with speculation that Apple is preparing to launch two new phones in September: an iPhone 5 as well as a mid-priced iPhone targeted at the prepaid market. The move would be slightly out of character for Apple, which traditionally has a streamlined hardware portfolio — especially in mobile. But it would also be a great way to tap the prepaid market, which continues to swell as budget-minded users turn up their noses as postpaid plans.
