Nokia and Apple ended their patent dispute this morning with the announcement that Cupertino will make a one-time payout to the Finnish manufacturer and will continue to pay royalties for the term of the agreement. That’s an outcome that IP guru Florian Mueller predicted earlier this year, and it’s welcome news in an industry that continues to teem with patent-infringement litigation. But Mueller also notes that Nokia may be planning to use the settlement to come after Android, which “is in many ways a rip-off of Apple’s operating software.” So the end of one battle may just be the beginning of a much larger war.
