Today in Connected Consumer
Ryan has an interesting update on Yahoo’s Connected TV platform, which is certainly the oldest of any of the “new-generation” of connected TV platforms with any sort of adoption. I tend to agree with one of the commenters that while 8 million units of Yahoo Connected TV so far sounds impressive, it’s all about actual usage rather than a simple attach rate number. That said, I see a potential future for Yahoo Connected TV as more of a basic “feature-phone” like OS rather than the “smartphone” like approach of Google TV or Apple TV – meaning lowerpowered, and lower-cost HDTVs might find Yahoo Connected TV as a nice low-cost (both in dollars and tech-requirements) to offer smart TV functionality.
