Google unveiled its mobile wallet initiative yesterday, and it took PayPal all of 10 hours to respond with a lawsuit claiming Google Wallet is the byproduct of misappropriated trade secrets. The lawsuit centers on former PayPal executive Osama Bedier, who allegedly “misappropriated PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google” as a new Google hire. Om Malik and Ryan Kim have the fascinating backstory here, and Google’s recruiting of Bedier certainly seems suspicious. These are two companies with deep pockets and a lot at stake, so expect this one to be a protracted, bloody battle.
