Today in Mobile
The National Association of Broadcasters kicks off its annual trade show in Las Vegas this week, and the Open Mobile Video Coalition is predictably using the stage to push its mobile DTV effort. The OMVC, which consists of traditional TV broadcasters looking to deliver content to handsets, expects its service to reach 77 million Americans by this time next year. Mobile DTV’s low overhead makes it more viable than services like Qualcomm’s FLO, which required a costly dedicated network and was a massive flop. But while there may be some demand for certain types of mobile video, I think precious few consumers want to watch traditional television programming on a mobile phone.
