VentureBeat has an impressively in-depth post this morning exploring “How HTML5 will kill the native app.” Matt Marshall rightly cites the ability to address a massive number of handsets with a single HTML5 build (as opposed to building different versions for iPhone, Android, etc.), and he notes that HTML5 apps are searchable by Google and other engines. But the fact remains that native apps still deliver a far more immersive experience than anything that HTML5 has to offer. Yes, we’ll probably see the day when HTML5 overtakes native apps (if not exactly “killing” them), but that day is still a ways off.
