Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette this morning said in a research note this morning that sales of both Motorola’s Xoom tablet and Atrix smartphone “have been disappointing,” citing channel checks. The Atrix has received positive reviews but sales have been hampered by the emergence of $49 phones including the iPhone 3GS and the HTC Inspire, Faucette said. As for the Xoom, well, its $800 price (without a contract) seems steep compared to the base-model iPad 2, which sells for $500. And it’s that $500 price point that has already been established as a standard for entry-level tablets thanks to Apple.
