MobileCrunch has an eye-opening piece this morning examining mobile network speeds for both laptop modems and smartphones. It’s no surprise that Verizon Wireless’s LTE network is by far the fastest network for laptop usage, roughly tripling the average download speed of Sprint. But Verizon is actually the slowest of the big four when it comes to smartphones, MobileCrunch found, because there are no VZW LTE phones yet. That will change starting later this week with the release of the HTC ThunderBolt, but for now T-Mobile USA lays claim to the fastest network for smartphones.
