MocoNews last night posted a thought-provoking piece regarding a study from the Reynolds Journalism Institute that indicates iPad newspaper apps could cut into print subscriptions. The study certainly presents some compelling data, but as a journalist I think it misses the point — the real question is whether new business models will emerge to support journalism, not what kind of media will be used to deliver it. What’s important is that we find new ways to support the journalists who produce the kind of original, investigative content that’s vital to our society; not whether their work appears on paper or on a tablet. Unless, of course, you make your living running a printing press.
