After a long wait, Google eBooks has finally arrived. The browser-centric offering ties together a huge cache of free eBooks as well as many new offerings from some of Google’s four thousand publishing partners. Will it be enough to start to eat into Amazon’s huge lead – maybe over time, but likely not soon, given the more established behaviors of consumers, their existing billing relationship with Amazon, and the likelihood that books in browsers is something most consumers today aren’t really asking for.
